Nigerian hurdler and world record holder Tobi Amusan delivered a stunning performance at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco, winning the women’s 100 meters hurdles with a new meet record of 12.24 seconds. The 28-year-old shattered the previous record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018, marking her first major victory of the 2025 season.

Amusan’s victory in Rabat comes after a challenging start to her 2025 campaign, where she finished fourth at both the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets in May. She also secured a win at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16 in March, though against a less competitive field. The Rabat triumph is a significant turnaround for Amusan, especially after missing the final at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Reflecting on her performance, Amusan attributed her success to a renewed emphasis on hurdle technique. “More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting. After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” she said after the race.

With the hurdles event excluded from the Doha Diamond League meet, the Rabat race was a crucial opportunity for Amusan to reignite her season—and she seized it in emphatic fashion. Her record-breaking run reaffirms her status as a top contender ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo.
