President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has pledged a year of economic growth, stability, and national unity in his New Year message to Nigerians. Highlighting progress in 2024, the President assured citizens of renewed efforts to tackle inflation, lower the cost of living, and enhance credit access to boost economic productivity in 2025.
Addressing the nation on January 1, Tinubu expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him and acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians amidst the economic challenges of the past year.
“Economic indicators point to a positive and encouraging outlook for our nation,” Tinubu said. He noted that fuel prices have decreased, foreign reserves have risen, and the Naira has gained strength against the US dollar. He also celebrated the stock market’s record growth, which created trillions of naira in wealth and attracted increased foreign investment.
However, he acknowledged the persistent challenges faced by citizens, particularly the high cost of food and essential drugs. To address these issues, Tinubu announced plans to reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15% in 2025 through initiatives to boost food production and local manufacturing of essential goods.
A key component of the administration’s plan is the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, which will provide risk-sharing mechanisms to financial institutions and enterprises. Expected to launch by the second quarter of 2025, the initiative aims to enhance access to credit for underserved groups, particularly women and youth, and drive national economic growth.
Tinubu also emphasized the importance of national unity and citizenship in achieving the government’s vision. He announced plans to unveil the National Values Charter and launch a national orientation campaign to promote patriotism, ethical principles, and shared values.
“The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire and the Nigeria of our dreams,” Tinubu assured.
The President urged governors and local leaders to collaborate with the federal government to seize emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and energy reforms. He commended states that have adopted compressed natural gas and electric vehicles as part of the national energy transition.
As part of youth inclusiveness, Tinubu revealed that a Youth Conference will be held in the first quarter of 2025 to engage young Nigerians in nation-building efforts.
Concluding his message, Tinubu called for continued resilience and cooperation from all Nigerians. “Let us stay the course of nation-building,” he said, assuring citizens that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
The President’s optimistic message sets the tone for 2025, envisioning it as a year of transformation and progress for the nation.
