President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has urged the National Assembly to approve an upward review of the 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
The request was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Tinubu attributed the proposed budget increase to additional revenue generated by key government agencies. According to the president, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) contributed N1.4 trillion, the Nigeria Customs Service generated N1.2 trillion, while other government-owned agencies accounted for N1.8 trillion.
Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for further review. He assured lawmakers that the revised budget would be considered swiftly and passed before the end of February.
