President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to travel to Accra, Ghana, on January 6, 2025, to attend the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for January 7.

According to a statement released on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s visit comes at the invitation of Mahama, who was reelected in December 2024. Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017, will be succeeding President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose tenure ends this year.

“Tinubu’s trip to Accra is at the invitation of the president-elect, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December,” Onanuga said. He noted that the two leaders share a longstanding personal relationship, reflecting the strong ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu will join other African leaders in Accra to mark the occasion. He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
