President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in a brief ceremony before the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

When asked about potential challenges, Bello noted that corruption is a global issue, but effective systems can mitigate it. He assured that Nigeria has the necessary systems and institutions to combat corruption and intends to focus on delivering the Bureau’s mandate to ensure integrity and prevent corruption.

The Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by President Tinubu, had almost all members present, with notable exceptions including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa.

Other absent members included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Minister of Environment, Professor Joseph Utsev; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Dr. Bello expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his appointment and promised to do his best to tackle corruption. “I want to assure Mr. President and the people of Nigeria, I will do my best to make sure that I deal with this huge task ahead of me,” he said.
