President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has signed the National Anthem Bill into law despite widespread opposition from Nigerians.
The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 during a joint session of the National Assembly.
Akpabio also noted that President Tinubu would not be addressing the House, opting instead to flag off the new anthem. According to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the president canceled his address because June 12 is the official Democracy Day.
