
In a major cabinet shake-up, President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, announced the dismissal of five ministers and the nomination of seven new ones for Senate confirmation. Additionally, 10 ministers were reassigned to new portfolios.
Among the new nominees are Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Nentawe Yilwatda, appointed as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, replacing the suspended Betta Edu. Maigari Dingyadi was nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment, and Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry. Other nominees include Idi Maiha as Minister for the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The President’s reshuffle saw the exit of Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service and urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to embrace their roles with commitment, stating that their efforts were crucial to the administration’s drive to put Nigeria on the path of irreversible growth.
