President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has directed a comprehensive review of the recently announced governing boards of tertiary institutions in Nigeria following public backlash.
The directive, disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, aims to ensure that the nominations reflect the principle of federal character as enshrined in the constitution.
The Federal Ministry of Education had released names of nominees for chairmen, Pro-Chancellors, and members of the boards and councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. However, public reactions highlighted concerns about the nominations not adequately representing the federal character of the country.
In response, President Tinubu has called for a complete review of the list of members to ensure national spread and proper representation from every part of the country. The review will be conducted before the scheduled inauguration and retreat for the nominees on May 31.
President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to upholding the principle of federal character and ensuring that all regions are adequately represented in the governing boards of tertiary institutions.
