President Bola Tinubu has officially flagged off the construction of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal road, hailing it as a “symbol of hope” for Nigerians. Despite facing criticisms, Tinubu expressed confidence that the project would significantly benefit the nation.
The event, which took place in the Victoria Area of Lagos State, saw the presence of top government officials, including Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and several state governors.
During his address, Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to completing the road, describing the occasion as a testament to his determination. He emphasized, “We said we would do this road. We will do this road. We are determined to do it.”
Amid ongoing criticisms, Tinubu defended the project, portraying it as a beacon of hope that would connect communities, create jobs, and spur economic growth. He urged Nigerians to see beyond the road’s construction, highlighting its significance in fostering unity and prosperity.
While addressing concerns about transparency and project costs, Tinubu reiterated the importance of bold and courageous initiatives for the nation’s progress. He praised the efforts of Minister Dave Umahi, underscoring the potential benefits of the completed project for Nigeria’s tourism sector.
Despite the opposition’s reservations, Tinubu remains steadfast in his conviction that the Lagos-Calabar coastal road will serve as a catalyst for development and national advancement.
