President Bola Tinubu has officially inaugurated a part of the completed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Lagos on Saturday, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure development.

Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Works, Mr. Bello Goronyo, praised President Tinubu for not only building critical infrastructure but also laying a strong foundation for a brighter future for all Nigerians. Goronyo highlighted that the President’s vision and determination had “tamed the Atlantic Ocean,” transforming what was once seen as a menace into a symbol of national greatness.

The inauguration covered a 30-kilometre stretch of Phase One, Section One of the ambitious 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. Goronyo also noted that Tinubu is overseeing three other significant legacy projects, including the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which passes through seven states.

“These are all projects that have the potential to unlock economic opportunities,” Goronyo said, adding that several completed projects in northern Nigeria would soon be commissioned.

Describing Tinubu as a courageous and visionary leader, Goronyo said, “It actually takes a man with courage, commitment, and determination to pursue this legacy project. Mr. President actually tamed the Atlantic Ocean and turned the menace from disgrace to greatness.”

He also acknowledged the substantial investment required for nationwide infrastructure development and prayed for continued wisdom and guidance for the President as he leads Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, was commended for his innovation and expertise in managing the ministry’s affairs, while Hightech Construction Ltd., the contractor for the coastal highway, was praised for delivering quality work on schedule.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Mr. Akin Alabi, also spoke at the event, revealing that President Tinubu had conceived the coastal highway project many years ago. He described Tinubu as a leader unafraid to take on challenging projects for the good of the nation.

Alabi shared his experiences overseeing the project, both officially and through independent visits, and commended the teamwork between the President, the Minister, and the contractors. “Mr President, Mr Minister, Hightech, you are all making magic,” he remarked.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is expected to boost economic activities, enhance transportation, and improve connectivity across Nigeria’s coastal states.
