President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria will depart Abuja today for a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom as part of his annual leave, which he will use for a working retreat.
According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president will use this time to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
During his Independence Day address marking Nigeria’s 64th anniversary, President Tinubu announced plans for a 30-day National Youth Conference. This initiative aims to include the youth in his administration, focusing on the next generation’s role in building a better future for Nigeria.
“As we work to overcome the challenges of the day, we remain mindful of the next generation as we seek to galvanize their creative energy towards a better future,” Tinubu said. He emphasized that the future belongs to the youth, stating, “We lead today with the future we wish to bequeath to our children in focus, recognizing that we cannot design a future that belongs to them without making them its architects.”
The president explained that the upcoming conference would provide a platform for young people across the nation to address key issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice. “The 30-day Confab will unite young people nationwide to collaboratively develop solutions,” Tinubu noted, adding that the government will work closely with youth representatives to design the modalities and select delegates for the conference.
Tinubu also reassured the Nigerian people of his administration’s commitment to economic and defense reforms, expressing his determination to defeat bandits and terrorists, allowing displaced farmers to return to their farmlands and help curb rising food prices. He praised Nigerians for their resilience, stating, “The country has survived crises that disintegrated other nations,” and reaffirmed his dedication to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
