President Bola Tinubu has publicly dispelled reports of a rift with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, affirming that their relationship remains cordial and that “it’s all over now. All is forgiven.” This declaration came during a meeting at the President’s Ikoyi residence, where Sanwo-Olu and members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) paid homage to Tinubu for the Eid-el Kabir celebration.
The meeting followed months of speculation about tensions between the President and the governor, fueled by incidents such as Tinubu’s apparent snub of Sanwo-Olu at a recent public event. However, sources close to the meeting revealed that Sanwo-Olu and other GAC members prostrated before the President in a gesture of remorse and sought his mercy, which Tinubu graciously granted without any demands for explanations.
After the meeting, Sanwo-Olu described the gathering as a traditional festive visit, emphasizing the unity and support Lagosians have for the President. He praised Tinubu’s achievements over the past two years and reaffirmed his loyalty, calling the President “our father and leader.” The governor also dismissed rumors of protests around the upcoming Democracy Day, stating that the country’s economy is improving and urging patience for further progress.
In a related development, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at the same residence. The monarch commended Tinubu’s efforts to reposition Nigeria on the global stage, highlighting the positive impact of his economic reforms and the administration’s proposed restructuring of the Forest Guard security system. Oba Ogunwusi expressed optimism that improved security would foster investor confidence and economic growth.
The Ooni also shared insights from his recent trip to Kazakhstan, noting that Nigeria’s enhanced international relations are attracting new business opportunities.
He called on Nigerians to adopt a more optimistic outlook about the nation’s future, praising Tinubu as “a bold president committed to a better Nigeria” and urging traditional rulers to lead by example in nation-building efforts.
