
President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent attacks on citizens in Dutsin-Ma and Kankara Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Describing the assaults as “grisly and sinister,” the President vowed that more efforts would be made to secure the citizens and to completely degrade terrorists and other harbingers of death and sorrow across the country.
“More will be done to secure our citizens and completely degrade terrorists in any part of the country,” President Tinubu said.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Chief Ajuri Ngelale, revealed that the President has directed security agencies to pursue the assailants and ensure they are brought to justice. “Security agencies have been directed to go after the assailants and bring them to justice,” Ngelale said.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, as well as the government and people of Katsina State. He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.
The attacks, carried out by bandits armed with dangerous weapons, targeted Gidan Boka village, resulting in the death of 20 villagers and injuries to two others.
A statement by the Katsina State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, detailed the incident. “While responding to a distress call, a police patrol team in an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) was ambushed by the bandits near Kurmeji village via Yar Goje,” Aliyu said.
The ambush resulted in the deaths of three police inspectors, one corporal, and two members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps. “The slain security personnel included three police inspectors, one corporal, and two members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps,” Aliyu explained.
The patrol team, initially dispatched to Gidan Baki village, discovered the actual target to be Gidan Boka village and redirected their route. Unfortunately, they were ambushed upon reaching Kurmeji village, resulting in a firefight.
