President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has appointed Mr. Tanimu Yakubu as the new Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, succeeding Mr. Ben Akabueze, whose tenure has expired.

The announcement was made through a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Mr. Yakubu brings a wealth of experience to the role. He served as Chief Economic Adviser to former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010, was Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria between 2003 and 2007, and Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State from 1999 to 2003. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York.

President Tinubu expressed his appreciation for Mr. Akabueze’s contributions and wished him success in future endeavors. He emphasized his expectations for Mr. Yakubu to enhance budget functions, promoting fiscal sustainability, transparency, and accountability in public finance management.
