President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective immediately.
The appointment comes as Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, the outgoing AGF, begins her pre-retirement leave.
In a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the strategic importance of the Accountant General’s Office in managing Nigeria’s treasury. He expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s extensive expertise, describing him as a capable leader for ensuring continuity and driving reforms in treasury operations.
Mr. Ogunjimi, a seasoned financial expert with over three decades of experience, previously served as Director of Funds at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His professional credentials include being a chartered accountant, fraud examiner, and stockbroker, among others.
President Tinubu commended Dr. Madein for her commitment to public service, noting her retirement on March 7, 2025, after reaching the statutory age. He described her tenure as marked by dedication and effectiveness.
The appointment aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader efforts to stabilize Nigeria’s financial systems and strengthen fiscal reforms.
