Three feared bandit leaders operating in Zamfara State have reportedly lost their sanity due to prolonged drug abuse, causing disarray within their criminal networks.
The affected warlords—Kachalla Dan Baba, Kachalla Abu Guddi, and Kachalla Bello Kurma—were disarmed and abandoned by their own gangs after exhibiting erratic behavior, intelligence sources revealed.
According to security expert Zagazola, the incident occurred on March 27, 2025, and has left their criminal factions in turmoil. Witnesses claim the bandit leaders were seen wandering the forests, speaking incoherently and making irrational decisions.
Dan Baba, known for controlling a large gang in Kudo village near Buzaya Forest in Maru Local Government Area (LGA), was responsible for numerous kidnappings, highway attacks, and cattle rustling operations. Similarly, Abu Guddi, a notorious figure based in Gidan Garba village, led deadly raids on communities and was involved in arms trafficking. Kurma, another feared warlord, operated deep within Buzaya Forest, where he had links with other terror groups in the North-West.
An intelligence operative monitoring bandit activities confirmed that the gang leaders’ mental decline led their followers to seize their weapons and leave them defenseless in the wilderness.
“This is an unusual situation. These men were once feared warlords controlling vast networks, but their followers saw they were no longer fit to lead,” the source stated.
While security operatives attribute the incident to prolonged drug abuse, some locals believe supernatural forces may have played a role in their downfall.
“With their leaders incapacitated, their gangs will either scatter or seek new alliances, giving security forces an opportunity to strike harder before they reorganize,” the source added.
