Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed rumours circulating on social media about his death, assuring the public that he is alive and well. The elder statesman addressed the claims on Tuesday while inaugurating the Old Garage/Oke Fia-Lameco dual carriageway in Osogbo, Osun State, as part of events marking Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second anniversary in office.
Obasanjo expressed bewilderment over the false news, questioning the motives of those spreading it. “I heard the rumor that I was dead. I saw it on social media. I quickly told my children and relations that it was not true and that I am alive,” he said.
Condemning the individuals behind the rumors, Obasanjo declared, “Those who want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive. Those who harbor such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves. This kind of rumor is disturbing and shows the extent to which some people misuse technology. It is unacceptable.”
Adeleke Highlights Achievements
Speaking at the same event, Governor Ademola Adeleke reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development. He noted that over 120 kilometers of roads have been constructed statewide and highlighted ongoing projects such as dualizations and flyovers in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ilesa.
“We have redirected efforts toward completing the Iwo-Osogbo road and added the dualization of Odoori-Adeeke Road in Iwo,” Adeleke said, adding that all projects were funded without loans, thanks to strategic financial management.
The governor assured Osun residents that all ongoing projects would be completed during his tenure, pledging continued focus on infrastructure and social development.
