The Louvre Museum in Paris was hit by a daring heist, with eight priceless treasures stolen from the Apollo Gallery. The thieves, disguised as construction workers, used a cherry picker to access the gallery and smashed display cases to steal the jewels.

The stolen items include a tiara, necklace, and earring from the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense, an emerald necklace and earrings from the set of Marie-Louise, a reliquary brooch, a tiara of Empress Eugénie, and a large bow corsage of Empress Eugénie. The thieves also attempted to steal the crown of Empress Eugénie, but it was abandoned and damaged during their escape.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the heist, calling it an “attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is part of our history.” The investigation is ongoing, with a team of 60 investigators working to track down the suspects and recover the stolen treasures.
