A section of the Eleme Local Government Area secretariat in Rivers State, Nigeria has been set on fire, sparking fears of potential violence in the region.
It was reported that the newly elected chairman, Brian Gokpa, arrived at the secretariat alongside his councillors and supporters only to find parts of the complex engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In a phone interview, former Ambassador Oji Ngofa, who hails from Eleme, confirmed the incident, further fueling concerns about possible unrest in some local government areas across the state. Local authorities are on high alert as tensions rise, with residents fearing an outbreak of violence.
