The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commenced the process of restoring the National grid to reinstate electricity supply shortly after the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress called off their indefinite strike.

In response to the organized labour’s decision to suspend the strike for one week, TCN stated that power recovery operations have already commenced, starting with the Shiroro Hydropower Substation, which will subsequently lead to the restoration of power supply to the Katampe substation.

TCN, in an official statement on Monday, acknowledged that the nationwide power outage was a result of the planned strike by the organized Labour. The statement mentioned, “At about 3.23 am, TCN initiated grid recovery by utilizing the Shiroro Substation to attempt to energize the transmission lines supplying electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation.”

Despite the strike suspension, the labour union’s actions are impeding the nationwide grid recovery process. TCN affirmed its commitment to efforts aimed at recovering and stabilizing the grid to facilitate the return of normal electricity transmission to distribution centers across the country.

Earlier on Monday, the organized labour had shut down the National grid to emphasize their demand for the implementation of a new minimum wage. As of the latest update, Electricity Distribution Companies are yet to fully restore power supply.
