The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the lawsuit filed by 16 states challenging the constitutionality of the laws that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and two other federal agencies. The court announced that the judgment date would be communicated to the involved parties.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Imo, Bauchi, and Osun states joined as co-plaintiffs, while Anambra, Ebonyi, and Adamawa withdrew their cases, leading the court to strike out their participation.
Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, representing the defendant, sought permission from the court to submit a process filed earlier that morning. Justice Uwani Abba-Aji granted this request, allowing the defendant to submit a reply on the point of law.
Further details will follow as the case progresses.
