Nigeria, the nine-time African champions, will be making their first appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament since 2008. They have been drawn into Group B and will face Brazil, Spain, and Japan. Their first match is against Brazil on July 25 at the Stade Bordeaux, followed by games against Spain on July 28 and Japan on July 31 at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes. This venue holds historical significance for Nigerian football, being the site of the Super Eagles’ 3-2 victory over Spain at the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals.

Nigeria secured their spot in the 12-team tournament by defeating South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 1-0 in April, with Ajibade’s penalty in Abuja proving decisive over the two-legged qualifier.
