Head coach Eric Chelle has finalized the roster for Nigeria’s national football team, selecting 28 players to represent the Super Eagles at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The list, trimmed from a provisional squad of 54, features a blend of established stars and returning veterans as the team prepares for continental competition.
Notably, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been included despite recent concerns over hand and ankle injuries that had threatened his participation.
He will be joined in the goalkeeping department by Amas Obasogie and Francis Uzoho, providing a mix of experience and emerging talent between the posts.
The attack is spearheaded by the team’s marquee striker, Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray. He leads a formidable forward line that includes Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon.
In a significant boost to the offensive options, coach Chelle has recalled strikers Paul Onuachu and Cyriel Dessers to the national team setup, while the Sevilla duo of Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke also earned their places in the final selection.
The defensive and midfield units are built around a core of players based in Europe’s top leagues. The squad features the experience of defenders like Calvin Bassey and Bright Osayi-Samuel, while the midfield is anchored by Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, providing a solid foundation for the team’s structure and play.
With the squad now official, the focus for Coach Chelle and the Super Eagles shifts to preparation and tactics for the tournament. The selected players will aim to gel as a unit and build momentum with the goal of challenging for the AFCON title and bringing the trophy back to Nigeria.
