The caretaker coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, has successfully undergone surgery in Belgium.
According to reports from SCORENigeria, the procedure had been delayed several times due to Eguavoen’s commitments with the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign. Eguavoen led the team to secure qualification for the tournament, which will take place in Morocco next year.
With Eguavoen temporarily sidelined, assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has taken charge of the home-based Super Eagles. Ogunmodede recently guided the team to a 0-0 draw against the Black Galaxies of Ghana in the first leg of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier, held in Accra on Sunday.
The return leg between the two teams is highly anticipated as both sides battle for a spot in the CHAN tournament.
Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles defender and coach, is expected to make a full recovery soon and resume his role as caretaker coach ahead of future assignments.
