The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced that the crescent moon signaling the end of Ramadan has not been sighted in Nigeria, meaning fasting may continue on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized the importance of moon sighting in determining the start of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
“If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will declare Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Eid-el-Fitr,” the statement read.
Muslims across the country have been urged to continue their search for the crescent, with an official announcement expected from the Sultan once verification is complete.
