The Sultan of Sokoto has declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement followed the sighting of the crescent moon, which signifies the beginning of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.

Muslims across Nigeria are expected to observe the Eid prayers on Friday, in line with the declaration by the Sultan, who is the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.

The Sultan urged Muslims to continue to uphold the values of sacrifice, discipline and unity learned during Ramadan, while also promoting peace and harmony in the country.

The declaration aligns with earlier indications that the end of Ramadan would fall around March 20, depending on the moon sighting.

The announcement has set the stage for nationwide celebrations, as millions of Muslims prepare to mark one of the most important festivals in Islam.
