In a significant development, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that students from 36 state-owned tertiary institutions can now apply for student loans, effective from July 7, 2024. This move is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of students across the country.

According to NELFUND, the management of these institutions has successfully submitted their student data to the NELFUND Student Verification System (SVS), paving the way for students to access the loan facility.

The affected institutions include:

  • Adamawa State University, Mubi
  • Edo State University, Uzairue
  • Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti
  • Gombe State University
  • Lagos State University
  • Nasarawa State University, Keffi
  • Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State
  • University of Medical Sciences, Ondo
  • Osun State University
  • University of Ilesa, Osun State
  • GTC, ARA Osun State
  • Taraba State University, Jalingo
  • Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua Yobe State
  • Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara

and several other state-owned polytechnics and colleges of education.

By accessing the student loan facility, students from these institutions can now borrow funds to cover their educational expenses, including tuition fees, accommodation, and other related costs.

NELFUND has urged other state-owned tertiary institutions to submit their complete student data to the SVS to enable their students to benefit from the scheme. This move is expected to expand the reach of the student loan facility and provide financial support to even more students across the country.
