The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has cautioned Nigerians against migrating to countries that offer worse living conditions than Nigeria.

In a video shared on social media platform X, she appealed to Nigerian influencers and bloggers to assist the Federal Government in spreading the message, urging citizens to reconsider fleeing to such destinations.

“Please, we appeal to bloggers and influencers. Help us appeal to Nigerians that where you are running to is worse than where you are running from (Nigeria),” Dabiri-Erewa said.

Her warning came in response to a recent viral video showing Nigerians imprisoned in Mali, pleading for help. The NiDCOM chairperson expressed shock at the situation, revealing that some of the women in the video had previously been rescued by the Nigerian government but had returned to Mali.

“We have identified some of these girls as those brought back earlier. That they found themselves back in Mali is shocking,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.

She emphasized the importance of obeying the laws of other countries and cautioned against irregular migration, noting that the consequences of such actions have become increasingly severe. NiDCOM is reportedly working with the Nigerian mission in Mali to see if efforts can be made to bring the prisoners back home.
