Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, less than two months after his previous release. The arrest occurred in Owerri during a show on Wednesday, as confirmed by the singer’s lawyer.

Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, was initially arrested on October 4, 2024, following the release of a controversial video where he allegedly mocked his colleague, Burna Boy, over the latter’s association with American rapper Diddy, who is facing FBI charges for sexual exploitation. After spending five days in detention, the outspoken singer was released on bail on October 9.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, announced the latest arrest in a post on his official Facebook page, stating, “Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”

Efforts by newsmen to contact the Nigeria Police Force for further details were unsuccessful, as the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not respond to calls.

The arrest comes as Speed Darlington continues to attract attention for his controversial statements and videos. Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
