Members of the Southern Caucus in the House of Representatives in Nigeria have expressed support for the four tax reform bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly.
However, they have emphasized the need for further consultations to ensure necessary amendments are made before the bills are passed into law.
Speaking at a press conference, Nicholas Mutu (PDP, Delta), Leader of the Southern Caucus, reiterated the caucus’ readiness for dialogue and expressed that this is just the first phase of the process. The Southern Caucus is advocating for inclusivity in refining the bills to make sure they align with the diverse needs of Nigerians.
The tax reform bills, which aim to address multiple taxation issues and benefit low-income earners, have already garnered support from various stakeholders, including the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
