Sophia Momodu, the mother of Afrobeats star Davido’s first child, has refuted allegations that she has denied the singer access to their daughter, Imade. This comes in response to Davido’s recent legal action seeking custody.

In a detailed statement issued through her legal team, Momodu clarified that it was Davido who had chosen not to see their daughter since July 2022. “David has not seen their daughter since 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter,” the statement reads. Momodu emphasized that she has “solely shouldered” the responsibility for Imade over the past two years, countering the image Davido portrays on social media as a supportive and active father.

The statement further accused Davido of neglecting his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, including unpaid school fees. “Since July 2022, David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid. Their daughter’s school has contacted him multiple times regarding the fees for the 2021/2022 school term and January 2023, with no response,” the statement detailed. It noted that the outstanding fees were eventually paid by Davido’s father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke, after legal intervention in February 2023.

Momodu stressed the importance of Davido’s emotional and physical presence in their daughter’s life, stating, “Sophia strongly maintains that the most important support David can provide to their daughter is presence and emotional support.”

Addressing rumors of personal grievances, Momodu’s statement clarified, “Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse.”

The matter of custody now awaits resolution in court, as both parties navigate the complex dynamics of co-parenting under public scrutiny.
