Abuja explosion - 1

An explosion at Karu Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of six people and destroyed 14 vehicles, police authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred when a trailer lost control and crashed into a stationary vehicle stuck in traffic. The impact triggered a massive inferno, engulfing multiple vehicles and causing panic among commuters.

“Emergency responders rushed to the scene, battling thick smoke and intense heat to rescue those trapped. Six victims were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital, where they were later confirmed dead,” Adeh stated.

She added that with the intervention of the police, fire service personnel, and other security agencies, the fire was contained, and normal traffic flow was restored.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the FCT Command extended condolences to the families of the victims.

This tragedy adds to the growing number of explosion-related incidents across Nigeria. Just last week, a tanker explosion on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos claimed two lives and destroyed 12 vehicles.
