Street-hop artist Portable has escaped prison time after paying a ₦30,000 fine for assault charges dating back to 2022. The Ifo Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State sentenced the controversial musician on April 29, 2025, following his conviction on two counts of assault.

Court documents revealed the incidents occurred on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, where Portable (real name Habeeb Okikiola) allegedly conspired with others to assault one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi. The first charge carried a one-month prison sentence with a ₦10,000 fine option, while the second count carried two months with a ₦20,000 alternative.

Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke presented evidence showing the singer physically attacked the victim. Portable opted to pay the combined ₦30,000 fine rather than serve the three-month jail term. The judgment comes amid the artist’s history of legal troubles and public controversies since rising to fame.

Legal analysts note the case highlights Nigeria’s judicial approach to celebrity offenses, where fines often substitute imprisonment for non-violent crimes. However, some critics argue such leniency risks normalizing misconduct among public figures. The singer’s representatives have not commented on whether he will appeal the conviction.
