Simi has addressed the backlash surrounding resurfaced tweets she made over a decade ago, stating that the narratives being built around them are false and deeply unfair. She explained that she was not active on social media when the controversy erupted but felt compelled to respond after the posts were brought to her attention.

She clarified that the tweets were made 14 years ago when she was 23 years old, stressing that she was not a child at the time and had nothing to excuse or apologise for. According to her, what she refuses to accept is the deliberate twisting of her words to fit harmful and misleading narratives that do not reflect her character or intentions.

Simi explained that in 2012 she lived with her mother and helped out at her daycare while pursuing her music career. During that period, she tweeted freely about everyday life, as was common at the time.

She said the tweets in question were simply observations about children being playful or cute, moments she found amusing or endearing, and expressions of affection that carried no perverse meaning.

She added that she was not a public figure then and did not fully grasp how statements could later be stripped of context and weaponised. She described herself as never having lived a depraved life and said her old tweets also clearly reflect her openness about admiration for people and her youthful, cheeky personality, none of which she ever tried to conceal.

Addressing the deletion of some tweets, Simi said the decision was made by her team due to the emotional impact on her family, even though she personally did not want them removed.

She reiterated her long-standing stance against rape and sexual assault, emphasising that her advocacy predates her fame and is rooted in her values, not performative activism.

She concluded by saying she has never claimed perfection or absolute knowledge but has always been clear in her opposition to sexual violence. According to her, calling out rape and standing firmly against it is not a trend she adopted, but a conviction she has consistently lived by.
