A devastating fire outbreak in the Oluwatuyi area of Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of two young siblings, Jelad Oluwaranakinse (5) and his younger brother, Jenson (3).

According to eyewitnesses, the children were locked inside their home by their mother, Mrs. Deborah Oluwaranakinse, who had stepped out to buy food. Unfortunately, while she was away, a fire broke out, consuming the entire apartment with the children trapped inside.

Efforts by neighbors to extinguish the flames and rescue the boys were unsuccessful. The Ondo State Fire Service reportedly arrived at the scene after significant damage had already been done. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The Ondo State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. The remains of the children have been deposited at the morgue of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure.
