The Japan-set historical epic Shogun shattered Emmy Award records, securing 18 wins, the most ever for a series in a single season. The FX series was named Outstanding Drama Series, marking the first non-English-language show to win this coveted award.

Shogun, based on James Clavell’s historical novel about warring dynasties in feudal Japan, led the Emmy nominations with 25 nods and won in key categories, including Best Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada and Best Actress for Anna Sawai. The show was praised for its East-meets-West narrative and predominantly Japanese cast, with much of the dialogue subtitled.

The previous record for most Emmys in a season was 13, set by John Adams
in 2008. Other notable winners included The Bear, which took home 11 awards, including Best Lead Actor for Jeremy Allen White and Best Supporting Actress for Liza Colon-Zayas, who outperformed favorites like Meryl Streep.

Baby Reindeer, Netflix’s breakout hit, won Best Limited Series, and Hacks
surprised many by winning Best Comedy Series, with Jean Smart claiming her third lead actress award.
