Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu, who was attending the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the UAE. Other dignitaries in attendance included members of the Federal Executive Council, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, service chiefs, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The ceremony featured traditional military rituals, including a gun salute and the symbolic laying of wreaths. Widows and families of the fallen heroes, senior government officials, diplomatic representatives, and military spouses also attended to honor the sacrifices of their loved ones.
In a statement, the Senate lauded the dedication of the armed forces, acknowledging both the fallen and serving soldiers for their roles in maintaining peace and protecting the nation from threats.
