The Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has urged the organizers of the planned nationwide protests, particularly the Nigerian youth, to reconsider their actions for the benefit of the country and its citizens.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas acknowledged the frustrations and reservations of the youth but emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is actively working to alleviate these concerns. “I address you today with a heart full of empathy and a deep sense of duty. We are living through challenging times, and I want to acknowledge the difficulties that many of you, especially our youth, are facing,” Abbas stated.

He assured that the government is committed to listening, engaging, and working with the youth to find sustainable solutions. “Your frustrations and reservations are not lost on us. We hear your cries for change, for a better and more equitable Nigeria. I want to assure you that these concerns are taken with the utmost seriousness by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Abbas highlighted various initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of the youth, including the introduction of student loans to ease educational expenses and ensure access to education. He also mentioned schemes like the Consumer Credit Scheme, designed to support young entrepreneurs, and programs focused on job creation and skills development.

“The Tinubu-led administration has also made significant strides in providing access to funds for young entrepreneurs through various schemes, such as the Consumer Credit Scheme, designed to support innovation and enterprise,” Abbas added. He emphasized the government’s commitment to turning youth into job creators rather than just job seekers.

The Speaker also pointed out the House of Representatives’ efforts to engage with the youth through formal legislative mechanisms, ensuring their voices are heard and fostering regular interaction to build consensus on solutions.

“At this juncture, I appeal to the planners of these national protests to shelve their action for the interest of our nation. Let’s give the government more time. Let’s open doors for purposeful dialogue with the government,” he urged, stressing the importance of using legitimate avenues to express grievances and the collective task of nation-building.

Abbas concluded by reaffirming the House of Representatives’ commitment to working with the youth to ensure a bright future for all Nigerians.
