In a recent video message shared on his Instagram account, Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti expressed his concerns regarding Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo’s statements surrounding the late Nigerian singer Mohbad. Kuti accused Ojo of politicizing Mohbad’s death as a means to target his former record label boss, Naira Marley.

Kuti addressed Ojo directly in the video, stating, “I have watched your video, Iyabo [Ojo], but throughout the video, you’re just talking about what VeryDarkMan did yet you said I was the one you were calling out.” He further added, “But there is one thing that I hold onto, you said I’m a confusionist confusing the youths. [Yoruba] This life is wicked.”

The singer emphasized his belief that Ojo’s activism was not focused on seeking justice for Mohbad but rather aimed at Naira Marley. He questioned the intentions behind the politicization of Mohbad’s death, highlighting discrepancies in the government’s findings regarding the cause of the singer’s passing.

Kuti expressed skepticism towards the acceptance of the government’s conclusions, mentioning reports that attributed Mohbad’s death to substance abuse. He challenged the notion of seeking justice under such circumstances and suggested that the movement was ultimately directed against Naira Marley.

Moreover, Kuti touched on broader societal issues, referencing Ojo’s statements about fighting against bullying in Nigerian society. He raised concerns about the prevalence of cultism among celebrities, labeling them as “gangs of bullies” perpetuating a culture of bullying.
