The Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion) held a solemn and heartfelt Service of Songs in honor of Mrs. Julianah Olubusola Akintoye (July 16, 1936 – December 25, 2024) at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ishagatedo, Isolo. The service, which took place on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 5:00 PM, was attended by family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the late matriarch.

The program commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an uplifting hymn (CONH 509). Scriptures were read to reflect on the transient nature of life, with Psalm 90, Ecclesiastes 8:1-13, and Wisdom 4:7-15 reminding attendees of the wisdom, righteousness, and faithfulness that defined Mrs. Akintoye’s life. Additional hymns, including O Lord My God and Great Is Thy Faithfulness, were sung in reverence and thanksgiving.

A reading from Revelation 22:7-14 emphasized the promise of eternal life, after which another hymn, CONH 428, was rendered. A special moment of prayer for the family was observed, offering divine strength and comfort to the bereaved.

The testimonies and tributes segment was one of the highlights of the service, as different groups and institutions reflected on Mrs. Akintoye’s impact. A video presentation by the Yoruba Self-Determination Movement paid homage to her contributions, while members of CLL-St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ishagatedo-Isolo, and representatives from Staff Schools of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and Ibadan shared their heartfelt recollections.

Another hymn, CONH 22, preceded the Gospel reading from John 14:1-6, reassuring mourners of Christ’s promise of a heavenly home. A short exhortation was delivered, urging attendees to live a life of purpose and devotion, just as Mrs. Akintoye did.

The service concluded with CONH 458, followed by notices, a vote of thanks, and the closing prayer and benediction.

As the service ended, it was evident that Mrs. Julianah Olubusola Akintoye’s legacy would live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her unwavering faith, dedication to service, and impact on education and community development remain an inspiration to all.
