Senegal achieved a landmark victory with a 3-1 win over England, becoming the first African team to defeat the Three Lions in 22 attempts. The breakthrough moment came when Cheikh Sabaly scored the third goal, sealing a memorable performance for the visitors.

After falling behind early, Senegal responded with goals from Ismaila Sarr and Habib Diarra, overturning the deficit and shifting the momentum in their favor. The win was a testament to their resilience and growing stature on the international stage.

Team captain Kalidou Koulibaly praised the effort and spirit shown, calling it a “fantastic night” and drawing parallels to their historic continental title win in 2022. He emphasized that the squad is committed to building on its legacy and showcasing the strength of the national team.

The victory extended Senegal’s unbeaten streak, which began after their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024. Under new management since December, the team has shown promise, recording two wins and two draws.

A number of players in Senegal’s starting lineup currently play in England’s top flight, reflecting the increasing influence of Senegalese talent in European football.

Historically, England had remained undefeated against African opposition, with 15 wins and 6 draws across 21 matches. This defeat marks the end of that record and signals a significant shift in global football dynamics.
