Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, Nigeria has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal divisions and unresolved factional conflicts as key reasons for his departure.
In a resignation letter addressed to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nwoko expressed disappointment over the party’s deteriorating structure, which he believes has hindered his ability to fulfill campaign promises.
“My decision to resign is first and foremost due to the deep divisions and factionalisation within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko stated.
The senator also referenced a recent incident on January 29, where top party officials reportedly engaged in a physical altercation, highlighting the deep-rooted crisis within the PDP.
He thanked the party for the platform it provided during his senatorial election but emphasized that the current structure in Delta State was no longer conducive to achieving his developmental goals for his constituents.
Despite his resignation, Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Delta North, pledging to continue working towards their progress and prosperity.
Nwoko, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, assured his constituents that his decision was in their best interest.
His departure marks another significant blow to the PDP amid ongoing internal struggles and leadership disputes.
