A section of a two-storey residential building in Abuja, Nigeria, collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping several people in the rubble.

The building, located beside the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road (Sultan Dasuki Way) in Kubwa, was previously a hotel named Al-Hilal before becoming a hospital and later a residential apartment.

Emergency responders and security personnel are on the scene, but rescue efforts are hampered by the delayed arrival of cranes. Nearly two hours after the incident, the cranes had yet to arrive. As of 8:45 am, two individuals had been rushed to a nearby hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own.

One of the escapees recounted, “When I woke up around 7 am, I heard some cracks and ran out of the house.”

Security operatives are assisting medical workers in the ongoing rescue mission and ensuring there is no further breakdown of law and order.
