A tragic school shooting has claimed the lives of eleven people, marking the deadliest gun attack in Austria’s recent history. The incident occurred at a secondary school in the northwestern part of Graz, where a 21-year-old former student opened fire before taking his own life in a school bathroom.
Authorities confirmed that six females and three males were killed during the initial attack, with twelve others injured—some critically. Later in the day, another female victim succumbed to her injuries in hospital, raising the death toll to eleven.
The shooter, a former student who did not graduate from the school, legally possessed both firearms used in the assault—a pistol and a shotgun. He was not previously known to law enforcement and is believed to have acted alone.
Investigators are currently working to determine the motive behind the attack, while officials have urged the public to avoid speculation as the inquiry continues.
