Saudi Arabian footballer Fahad al-Muwallad has been admitted to intensive care after a fall from the balcony of his residence in Dubai. The 30-year-old forward, who plays for Saudi club Al-Shabab and previously featured in the 2018 World Cup, reportedly fell from the second floor of his apartment while on holiday.

The Dubai government media office confirmed that Al-Muwallad is receiving treatment in a hospital’s intensive care unit, following the accident on Thursday. The Saudi consulate in Dubai has been notified of the incident and is closely monitoring the ongoing police investigation.

Al-Shabab’s captain traveled to Dubai to visit Al-Muwallad, whose condition has raised concerns. Saudi news outlet Al-Madina reported that there are “criminal suspicions” related to the incident, citing sources close to the case.

Al-Muwallad, who has enjoyed a successful international career with 17 goals in 74 appearances, has faced setbacks due to doping suspensions. He recently returned to play after serving a one-and-a-half-year ban for testing positive for a diuretic, which is often used to mask performance-enhancing drugs.
