Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has passed away at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest, a spokesperson for the South Korean tech giant confirmed on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Han, who was born in 1962, had been at the helm of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022. He was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO that same year, sharing leadership responsibilities with Jun Young-Hyun, who oversees the company’s semiconductor division.

In an internal message seen by CNN, Samsung paid tribute to Han, recognizing his 37 years of service in transforming the company’s TV business into a global leader. As the head of its electronics and appliances units, he played a crucial role in the company’s expansion despite facing a challenging market landscape.

“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the company stated.

Samsung has not yet announced a successor for Han.

His passing comes at a critical time for the company, which has been facing increasing competition in the semiconductor industry, particularly from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). During an investor meeting last week, Han acknowledged Samsung’s stock struggles and warned of economic uncertainties in 2025. He emphasized that the company was committed to pursuing significant mergers and acquisitions to drive growth.

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. He was instrumental in developing the company’s LED TV technology, a breakthrough that reinforced Samsung’s position as a leader in consumer electronics.
