The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Nigeria, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has appointed Professor Ibibia Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) following the resignation of the state’s Head of Service, George Nwaeke.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ibas highlighted Worika’s extensive experience, academic qualifications, and policy expertise as key factors in his appointment. The former naval chief also named Iyingi Brown as the Acting Head of Service, pending a substantive appointment.
The government expressed gratitude to Nwaeke for his service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Worika, a legal scholar and administrator from Okrika, Rivers State, holds a Ph.D. in International Environmental and Comparative Petroleum Law & Policy from the University of Dundee, UK. He has held high-ranking positions, including Senior Legal Adviser at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and General Legal Counsel for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna.
