On the first anniversary of the tragic explosion that struck Bodija Estate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the Bodija Estate Residents’ Association held a memorial service to honor the five victims who lost their lives in the blast. The explosion, which occurred on January 16, 2024, on Aderinola Street, Adeyi Avenue, resulted in severe damage to over 50 houses and several vehicles.

The state governor, Seyi Makinde, stated that the explosion was caused by illegal miners storing explosive devices in an apartment. In response to the tragedy, Makinde established a 10-member committee to manage relief funds for the victims. The government clarified that the funds were intended to assist the affected individuals, not as compensation for their losses.

During the memorial event held at the Bodija Estate Baptist Church, the association unveiled the identities of the five victims:

1. Fimihan Alao Fagbemi – A successful businessman known for his kindness and strategic business acumen.


2. Agnes Bolanle Badmus – A gentle and caring woman, loved for her devotion to God and her generosity.


3. Boluwatife O Manuel Adegoke – A public administration student from Ibadan

Polytechnic with aspirations for further education.
4. Ezekiel Kehinde Toluwase – A selfless man known for his dedication to justice and helping others, even rushing toward danger during the explosion.


5. Ladipo Azeez Oyebamiji – Another victim of the explosion, honored for his contributions to the community.

Additionally, the residents held a Jumat prayer at the Bodija Central Mosque on January 17 to further commemorate those who lost their lives.
