The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has announced an indefinite nationwide strike set to begin on April 7, 2026, following unresolved issues with the federal government.

The decision was reached after the association said key agreements previously made with the government had not been implemented, particularly those relating to welfare, remuneration, and working conditions.

Among the concerns raised are delays in the payment of allowances, poor working conditions, and unmet commitments aimed at improving the healthcare system and supporting resident doctors across the country.

The doctors stated that the strike would continue indefinitely until concrete actions are taken to address their demands, raising concerns about disruptions in services across public hospitals nationwide.

The development adds to ongoing tensions between healthcare workers and the government, with repeated calls for reforms in the sector and improved support for medical personnel.
