Prominent Islamic scholar and preacher Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello has passed away at the age of 84.

The fearless preacher from Oyo State died on Friday, December 6, 2024 as confirmed by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Ibadan-based cleric, in a heartfelt Facebook post.

Sheikh Akewugbagold mourned the loss of his mentor and spiritual leader, describing the day as one of his saddest. “My father and mentor has returned to his creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland, Sheikh Muhyideen AJANI BELLO, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are full of grief, and our eyes are filled with tears, but we will say nothing but what pleases our Creator, the Sole Commander of life and death – ALLAH,” he wrote.

The Sheikh’s son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi, also confirmed the sad news through a social media post featuring crying emojis alongside a picture of the late scholar.

Born in 1940 into the family of Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan, Sheikh Muhydeen Bello was a revered figure in Yorubaland. Known for his fearlessness and eloquence in preaching, he was deeply respected within the Islamic community and beyond.
